Last year we stumbled upon the Redbourn Classics Motor Show. I’m really glad we did as we had such a good day out.
With 300+ classic vehicles to photograph, live music, street food, a licensed bar, village stalls, children’s funfair and a miniature steam railway, what more could you possibly want for entertainment on an otherwise standard boring weekend afternoon!

In-between downpours and hot sticky sunny spells the conditions were just right for this classic car rally situated in the small village of Redbourn, Hertfordshire.

I’ve never taken any photographs of cars so this was going to be my first time. I took along a Canon 5D Mk III and just one lens, the Canon EF 24-70, f/2.8L. I wanted to travel light and not have to worry about changing lenses or faffing about with a load of heavy kit.
The lighting was pretty good for most of the time we were there, which was a blessing and a pleasant surprise as about 30 minutes before we arrived it absolutely chucked it down.
I’m by no means of any stretch of the imagination a car enthusiast. If it’s got four wheels, an engine, reliable and can get me from A to B safely and reasonably quickly, then that’s the kind of car aficionado I am. For me, this show was all about the lines, the shapes, the colour, the design, decals and old school details, character, nostalgia and style.
I loved some of the classic American cars and I’ve always had a soft spot for the WWII Willys jeep. Some of the classic car interior details were just as good as the exterior. Plenty of fluffy dice were on show to match the buffed up Chrome exteriors.
My favourite classic at the show, the WWII Willys jeep

I really enjoyed taking pictures of the cars, and actually, I really enjoyed taking pictures of the owners of the cars just as much. Some of them were classics and just as interesting in their own rights as the cars themselves.
I’ve already got the show booked into my diary for this year and hope to enjoy it just as much as the first time.

We love the video and photos from the 2022 Redbourn Classics . Hope you have the date Saturday 2 September in your diary for the next show! Could you please share your photos with us? Usually we have 2 volunteer photographers helping us on the day, but one of them wont be there this year so we will need photos for publicity.
